The Town of Ajax does not have an Urban Agriculture Plan, but section 2.1.7 of the Ajax Official Plan speaks to Urban Agriculture goals. In the Ajax Green Standard for Mid- to High-Density Residential and Non-residential, there is an Urban Agriculture metric to encourage the dedication of roof/ground space for gardens.
Brampton
The City does not have an Urban Agriculture Plan but has a Community Gardens Program.
Burlington
The City is committed to developing a Burlington Agricultural Action Plan and is identified as an action in Action 5-1 in the Climate Resilient Burlington Plan.
Additionally, Action 5-2 states ‘expand the opportunities to support local food production across the City of Burlington (such as community gardens, rooftop gardens, backyard gardening, etc.)
Dufferin County
The County does not have an Urban Agriculture Plan but advances a Rural Experimental Acres Project that supports, via funding and assistance, practices that farmers would like to implement on their farms. Experimental practices could include covering crops, manure amendments, grazing, variable rate seed/fertilizer, tire deflations system/controlled traffic, strip-till/no-till, or intercropping/relay cropping.
Durham Region
Region of Durham Agricultural Strategy provides a vision and guiding principles that will be basis for identifying key actions to support the growth and viability of the agriculture and agri-food industry in Durham, over the next five years.
Agriculture and Rural System Discussion Paper, Envision Durham provides an overview of Durham’s Rural Area and the current Regional Official Plan policy framework, identifies Provincial policy requirements and trends since the last ROP review, and identifies preliminary approaches and questions for discussion and feedback
Guelph
City of Guelph Official Plan, section 9.1.3, sets objectives and policies related to urban agriculture. Community grants related to urban agriculture exist through Our Food Future.
Halton Region
Halton Region's Rural and Agricultural Strategy identifies how Halton Region can positively influence the economic climate in Halton's rural and agricultural areas, so that these areas continue to thrive.
Hamilton
The City does not have an Urban Agriculture Plan, but has a Food Strategy with four objectives: supporting local food and helping grow the agri-food sector. This Strategy is currently in the process of being updated.
Kingston
The City is currently working with the Climate Leadership Working Group (a body of community leaders tasked with providing input and peer review to inform City-wide implementation of the Climate Leadership Plan) to implement the Food and Forestry Actions identified in the Climate Leadership Plan.
London
Making Urban Agriculture Easy report aims to address barriers to growing food within the City of London and includes recommended actions to address these barriers.
Markham
Markham has submitted a capital budget request to develop an Urban Agriculture Strategy and Policy.
Mississauga
Mississauga's Urban Agriculture Strategy is geared at encouraging healthier lifestyles, empowering the community to learn new skills about growing and harvesting produce and supporting local businesses with ties to urban agriculture. Implementation of the strategy is ongoing.
Newmarket
The Town adopted the York Region's Agriculture and Agri-Food Strategy, 2017.
Ottawa
The City has no formal plan but implements the Ottawa Smart Farm initiative.
Region of Peel
This Discussion Paper provides analysis of urban agriculture, overview of the federal, provincial, regional and local policy contexts and an analysis of the existing Regional Official Plan and recommended updates. It informs and engages the Region of Peel’s stakeholders, local municipalities and the public. It will identify policy gaps and opportunities as well as identify what must be updated to ensure conformity with provincial plans, policies and guidelines.
Toronto
The Toronto Food Strategy aligns with the growing international, national and
regional food movements and the increasing recognition of the important role
of cities in promoting healthy sustainable food systems.
Vaughan
The City collaborates on implementing actions from the York Region Agriculture and Agri-food strategy.
