Ajax

Ajax has partnered with TRCA and the Region of Durham to implement the Ajax Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (Ajax SNAP), the first SNAP in Durham. As part of the program, they will be designing and testing a delivery model for the targeted implementation of the Durham Greener Homes Program. 2024 is the second year of the Durham Greener Homes Program.

Brampton

1) The City of Brampton, together with the City of Mississauga and Town of Caledon, are designing a home energy retrofit program through the Peel Residential Energy Program (PREP). 2) Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP) - The program aligns municipal sustainability priorities with ​community n​eeds, identifies integrated retrofit solutions, and fosters partnerships between public agencies, community organizations, businesses, and residents; currently there are 3 completed projects.

Burlington

In September 2023, the City launched the Better Homes Burlington pilot program offering zero percent interest loans up to $10,000 for up to 20 homeowners to install a heat pump or improve air sealing and to help homeowners with information about the types of upgrades, incentives and rebates available to undertake residential energy retrofits.

Caledon

The Home Energy Retrofit Program was created to help homeowners in Caledon, Mississauga and Brampton to conserve energy, lower annual energy expenses and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Launched in 2024 with a focus on education and energy coaching for residents. Partners are continuing to explore financing options.

Clarington

The Town of Clarington supports the Durham Greener Homes Program.

Dufferin County

The County completed a feasibility study for a community deep energy retrofit financing program in 2021 and is the process of developing a County retrofit financing program.

Durham Region

Durham Greener Homes is a program of the Regional Municipality of Durham administered by Windfall Ecology Centre. It is designed to help residents save energy and money with expert home energy coaching services, loans, and rebates.

Guelph

The City offers loans and supports to residential property owners in Guelph to help support residential energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction upgrades.

Halton Hills

Retrofit Halton Hills Pilot Program (10 homes) was undertaken to support resident retrofit efforts.

Hamilton

City Council approved the Better Homes Hamilton Pilot Program with the objective to provide up to $1 million in loans to homeowners to implement energy efficiency retrofits. The pilot stage of the program targeted approximately 50 homes with each property able to receive a maximum of $20,000.

King

Kingston

City of Kingston community retrofitting program – Better Homes Kingston – is a local improvement charge (LIC) financing program to encourage homeowners to undertake deep-energy retrofits. Homeowners who participate in the program will qualify for up to $40,000 loans at 0 percent interest, with the option for an initial 30 percent upfront to pre-pay contractors for their services.

London

The Mayor’s 2024-2029 Multi-Year Budget includes $1.5 million in capital for loans to support a FCM CEF application being submitted in 2024. Proposal has been submitted.

Markham

The City of Markham and the City of Richmond Hill are partnering to conduct a feasibility study on the potential to implement a local financing program for home energy retrofits.

Mississauga

In 2023, the City, in collaboration with the City of Brampton and the Town of Caledon, completed a feasibility study evaluating design options for a potential home energy retrofit program and established the Centre for Community Energy Transformation (CCET) to support the community's transition towards a low-carbon future

Newmarket

Oakville

The Town is currently working on a Business Case for a community retrofit program.

    Oshawa

    Oshawa supports the Durham Region Greener Homes program. Action 2 of the Community GHG Plan sets a goal to advertising opportunities for an encouraging Oshawa residents to participate in the Durham Home Energy Savings Program offered by the Region.

    Ottawa

    The Better Homes Ottawa Loan Program is a residential PACE program.

    Pickering

    The City endorsed and supported the Regions Durham Greener Homes program.

    Region of Peel

    The Region supports the municipalities via the Centre for Community Energy Transformation. This community-based, non-profit organization will lead the energy transformation in Brampton and the Region of Peel.

    Richmond Hill

    The City is currently implementing Home Retrofit education programming for residents including a Home Energy improvement survey.

    Toronto

    1) Energy Retrofit Loans For Buildings - Through its Energy Retrofit Loan program, the City of Toronto provides low-interest financing for building retrofits that reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. 2) Home Energy Loan Program, also known as BetterHomesTo is a residential program. The City of Toronto offers financing of up to $75,000 to cover the cost of home energy efficiency improvements through its Home Energy Loan Program (HELP). 3) SolarTO - Through this portal, the City provides information and resources to help Toronto residents and businesses assess the rooftop solar potential of their properties and proceed through the steps to installation.

    Vaughan

    A program will be piloted beginning in 2024 as part of the Thornhill Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan in collaboration with the TRCA.
