Ajax

Ajax Partnership Fund is not exclusive to climate actions and covers a diversity of environmental projects. The Town recently funded environmental projects such as the Indigenous Community & Healing Garden and the Mind Your Plastic education program.

Brampton

The Advance Brampton Fund is a community granting program that supports non-profit sector development and provides municipal funding to eligible Brampton-based non-profit or charitable organizations.

Burlington

The Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund (up to $10,000 per project) is not an exclusive environment/climate change fund but ‘green/sustainable’ projects are considered. Recent approved projects include: a healing forest to build healing and community relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and to create meaningful relationships between nature and the citizens of Burlington; a meadow-type pollinator garden that’s publicly accessible; and three community gardens, two of which donated food to local food banks and one which included pollinator gardens.

Caledon

The Climate Action Fund provides grant funding to eligible entities to implement projects that address climate change in Caledon and are in line with the targets and objectives of the Resilient Caledon Climate Change Action Plan.

Dufferin County

The Community Grants program supports not-for-profit or charitable organizations to complete a project or provide programming that benefits the residents of Dufferin County, and which serves one or more of the County’s priority areas. Climate Action is one of its strategic priorities.

Guelph

Community Grants (formerly Wellbeing Grants) provide funding for not-for-profit organizations that supports operating costs, events, special programs or projects, or for small capital items that support the quality of life of Guelph residents. The Community grants are not an exclusive environment/climate change fund. Grants also exist through Our Food Future, for example, Food Access Spark Grants provides $50,000 in community grants to help address food access issues in Guelph and Wellington County.

Halton Hills

The Climate Change Investment Fund offers micro-grants to support action by individuals, organizations, and community groups in to support a resilient and low carbon community including planting trees and building pollinator gardens.

Halton Region

The Enhanced Basement Flooding Prevention Subsidy Program makes it easier and more affordable for residents to undertake home improvements that can help reduce the risk of flooding.

Hamilton

The City Enrichment Fund supports non-profit or community organizations in seven Program Areas: Agriculture, Arts, Communities, Culture & Heritage, Community Services, Digital (NEW Pilot Program), Environment, Sports & Active Lifestyles. A climate-specific stream is planned to be incorporated.

King

Enrich King offers 4 different funding/grant programs offered by the municipality: Community Grant Program, Community Assistance Program, Community Improvement Plan, Heritage Property Grants. The fundings assist community organizations with projects or initiatives that support the sustainability goals, as outlined in King’s Sustainability Plan.

Kingston

The Kingston Community Climate Action Fund supports projects that reduce GHG and/or air emissions; increase energy conservation or efficiency; reduce or divert organic waste; and/or assist with Climate Change adaptation and technology innovation.

London

The City of London supports the community via regular funding to 3rd party organizations to engage the community, such as Green Economy London, London Environment Network, etc.

Markham

The Markham Environmental Sustainability Fund is a municipal program that provides funding for innovative environmental initiatives that contribute to the sustainability, health and protection of Markham’s natural environment. The fund provides financial support for projects within Markham that deliver demonstrable, widespread environmental benefits to the Markham community. The Sustainable Neighbourhood Small Grant supports resident-led sustainability projects within the City of Markham that promote education, understanding and participation in environmental sustainability.

Newmarket

​The Town of Newmarket Council officially approved an agreement with Shining Hill Estates Collection Inc. that sets new standards in sustainable community building. Part of the agreement is a $1,000,000 contribution to the Town for seed funding to establish a Town Green Environmental Fund for initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Oakville

The OakvilleReady community climate adaptation program launched a Community Climate Action Grant in 2024 as well as the Bloomberg Philanthropic Mayor’s Youth Climate Action Grant, together these grant programs distributed approximately $70 000 into the community for climate action.

Oshawa

Oshawa Community Grants Program for Arts, Culture, Heritage and Environmental is not an exclusive environment/climate change fund but environment projects are considered.

Ottawa

Ottawa provides different Community Funding opportunities to invest in a sustainable social infrastructure of community non-profit social services that: Provides equitable access to programs and services Responds to community needs Demonstrates measurable outcomes and financial accountability Collaborates to build community capacity and development Aligns with City of Ottawa strategic priorities Sustainability Funding is now closed, but there will be a next round of Sustainability Funding in 2026 for the 2027-2031 funding term.

Pickering

The City has a Community Grant, but it is not an environment/climate change fund. It also provides an Environmental Schools Grant (specific to schools).

Region of Peel

Community Investment Program funds provide grants for not-for-profit agencies to help better deliver human and social services across Peel Region, there is no specific environmental stream. However, Peel Region indirectly supports the community via regular funding to 3rd party organizations to engage the community in cycling and energy efficiency projects.

Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill’s Backwater Valve Subsidy Program provides residents with up to $1,500 towards the cost of installation of a backwater valve that reduces the risk of basement flooding caused by overflowing sewers during severe weather events.

Toronto

1) The Climate Action Fund supports community-led projects, activities and events that directly or indirectly (education/outreach) reduce the harmful emissions that contribute to climate change. 2) The Community Investment Funding provides short-term funding for not-for-profit, grassroots and resident-led groups to design and lead community-based projects that provide social services and encourage resident engagement and leadership development. 3) The Green Debenture Program leverages the City’s low cost of borrowing to finance capital projects that contribute to environmental sustainability.
