Green Procurement Resources

  1. Responsible Purchasing Network: is an international network of buyers dedicated to socially responsible and environmentally sustainable purchasing.Officially founded in 2005, RPN is a program that is advised by a voluntary Steering Committee of leading procurement stakeholders from government, industry, educational institutions, standards setting organizations, and related organizations. They have numerous webinars where sustainable procurement actions are shared as well as numerous purchasing guides.
  2. The Buck Stops Here: Sustainable Procurement Playbook for Cities. Provides best practices and examples of sustainable purchasing policies and best practice examples, sample language and practical guidance. Developed by the Responsible Purchasing Network and Urban Sustainability Directors Network. October 2016.
  3. Green Purchasing Opportunities and Best Practices. General guidance to help states practice green purchasing, no matter the product category. It walks users through actions states can take during each step of the procurement process, identifying questions they can ask, contracting strategies they can deploy, and tools and other resources they can utilize to make their job easier. Developed by Responsible Purchasing Network and National Association of State Procurement Officials. January 2013
  4. State of Sustainable Purchasing in Canada 2017 Report. Reeve Consulting and the Municipal Collaboration for Sustainable Procurement (MCSP)’s  eighth annual MCSP State of the Nation Report. The report highlights MCSP achievements this year, as well as the latest trends and current sustainable purchasing (SP) experience of Canadian municipalities, educational institutions and an airport authority. MCSP is a member-based network of Canadian public-sector institutions working together to deliver better services and achieve better value through sustainable purchasing. Our member organizations meet virtually several times per year to share information, collaborate on tool development, and exchange lessons learned related to mitigating risks and improving social and environmental outcomes by considering sustainability risks in the procurement process.   5. Webinar recording: Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) and Municipal Procurement. This Guide is intended to help municipalities deal with day-to-day questions that may arise regarding provisions in trade agreements relevant to areas of municipal activity, i.e., regulation (e.g., zoning and environmental regulation), government purchasing, financial assistance and public-private partnerships.   6. 2012 Clean Air Council Green Procurement Scan. Summary of Clean Air Council member municipalities’ sustainable purchasing policies and action as of 2012. Plans are to update this Scan for completion in first quarter of 2019.
