Active Transportation Plan
The updated York Region Transportation Master Plan (TMP) was approved by Council in September 2022. The TMP is a 30-year plan to addresses Regional Active Transportation, Rapid Transit, and road needs to support planned growth to 2051. Implementation is phased annually through the 10-year capital program. Each of the 9 local municipalities would also have separate construction and implementation plans.

Community GHG Reduction Targets
Climate Action Plan, action 9, sets a goal for the Region to establish community-wide greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

Complete Streets Policy
Complete Streets Guideline is incorporated in the Pedestrian and Cycling Planning & Design and Designing Great Streets Guidelines. Implementation of Complete Streets elements would be considered on a site-by-site bases throughout the design process.

Corporate Adaptation / Resilience Plan
Based on York Region's existing Climate Change Action Plan, teams in Public Works, Corporate Services, Housing York Inc. are working on developing more detailed Climate Change Action Plans for respective facilities that include adaptation measures. Teams in Public Works are working towards identifying climate risks and adaptation measures for Transportation facilities and Water /Wastewater infrastructure.

Community EV Strategy
Regional Official Plan, section 2.3.19 and section 2.3.27 provide guidance on providing infrastructure for electric and low-emissions vehicles and incorporating related parking management policies and standards.

Green Development Policies (GDS)- Community
GDS are implemented at local level. Section 2.3.13 from York Region Official Plan encourages lower-tier municipalities to advance GDS.

Municipal Fleet Electrification Plan
The Corporate Fleet Electrification Plan and related Fleet Optimization Policy (internal document) were developed to minimize fleet greenhouse gas emissions through efficient operations and incorporating low-emission vehicles into its fleet.

Net Zero Municipal Facilities Commitment/Standard
The York Region’s Energy Plan, 2019 sets a goal of net-zero corporate greenhouse gas emissions by 2051. The Region has started the development of a Sustainable Buildings Policy. The Policy will encourage new buildings to earn both a LEED® Gold certification and be certified to the Passive House standard.

Community Emissions Reductions Progress Report
GHG emissions are tracked annually as a Strategic Plan community indicator, using the TAF Carbon Inventory.

Urban Agriculture Plans

Urban Forest Plans
1) York Regional Forest Management Plan 2019-2038 was adopted by York Regional Council in April 2019. It guides management and forest use activities in the York Regional Forest including tree planting, sustainable harvesting and tending. 2) York Region’s Greening Strategy , 2022 outlines programs and activities such as tree planting, stewardship, education and conserving natural lands with a focus on partnering with local organizations and residents. 3) York Region Official Plan policy established canopy cover target to recognize and encourage the protection of urban forests and trees and section 3.4.26 sets a target to increase canopy cover to a minimum of 40% of York Region’s total land area.
