Community GHG Reduction Targets
The Region sets only corporate targets. The Climate Change Master Plan sets the following targets: reduce corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 45% below 2010 levels by 2030. Furthermore, completed in the Fall of 2023, the Energy and Emissions Management Plan (EEMP) and Modeling Tool for Peel Housing Corporation (PHC) and Regional Housing Services (RHS) marks a significant first step of integrating decarbonization projects and costs with the existing State of Good Repair capital budget and 10-year planning process. The EEMP and Tool will operationalize program-level climate investments that build long-term reserve funding to reduce emissions, save operating dollars while increasing comfort to occupants and ensure building assets are maintained in a State of Good Repair. The implementation of this Plan could reduce 5,700 tonnes by 2030 and will be presented in more detail to Council as part of the 2025 budget process. Importantly, the methodology underpinning this housing EEMP can be replicated across all Peel’s Services and Programs.
