Active Transportation Plan
The Town is developing an update to the 2018 Transportation Master Plan and 2017 Active Transportation Master Plan. The process will use the Urban Mobility and Transportation Study to develop a new plan to accommodate growth to 2051. To Town participates and supports the Smart Commute program, in partnership with Milton, Burlington, Halton Hills and other municipalities in the GTHA, to promote sustainable modes of commuting amongst participating businesses in Oakville.

Community Emissions Reduction/ Mitigation Plan
Oakville’s Community Energy Strategy will be updated in 2025. Oakville's Community Energy Strategy directly supports Council's climate emergency declaration by identifying actions needed to significantly lower community greenhouse gas emissions and improve our overall energy efficiency while strengthening the local economy.

Community Climate Change Action / Environment Funds
The OakvilleReady community climate adaptation program launched a Community Climate Action Grant in 2024 as well as the Bloomberg Philanthropic Mayor’s Youth Climate Action Grant, together these grant programs distributed approximately $70 000 into the community for climate action.

Community GHG Reduction Targets
The Community Energy Strategy sets a goal for the Town to reduce community GHG emissions by 50 % by 2041 and 80% by 2050.

Community Retrofit Program
The Town is currently working on a Business Case for a community retrofit program.
    Complete Streets Policy
    Oakville's Livable By Design Manual, 2019 has a section on the benefits of Complete Streets. The manual is being updated and will incorporated prioritization of streets and suggested projects.

    Corporate Adaptation / Resilience Plan
    The Town is presently updating their Climate Strategy/Adaptation Plan from 2014. Additionally, the Town has a practice for more specific departmental action-oriented risk assessments. Each department identifies risks and adaptation actions based on projects.
    Municipal Fleet Electrification Plan
    The Town is working on a standard operating procedure to manage corporate EV fleet and infrastructure. Currently, two processes are in place: Sustainable Green Fleet Procedure and Fleet Optimization Plan.

    Net Zero Municipal Facilities Commitment/Standard
    Council endorsed a net-zero emissions target by 2050. In 2022 a Progress Report on Reduction of Energy Use and Carbon Emissions was presented to the Town of Oakville Council.

    Community Emissions Reductions Progress Report
    The 2024 Community Energy Strategy Implementation Update was presented to Council in October, 2024. The report provides an update on the implementation of the Community Energy Strategy over the last two years, including actions to advance priority projects.

    Urban Forest Plans
    The Town of Oakville has an Urban Forestry Plan that was approved in 2020 and is presently in the process of being updated.
