Community EV Strategy
City of Mississauga adopted the Peel Region ZEV Strategy and it is continuing to implement it.

Community GHG Reduction Targets
The Climate Change Action Plan, 2019 set a goal for the City to reduce community GHG emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050 (below 1990 levels). The city is updating its Climate Change Action Plan, which is expected to be completed in 2025.

Community Retrofit Program
In 2023, the City, in collaboration with the City of Brampton and the Town of Caledon, completed a feasibility study evaluating design options for a potential home energy retrofit program and established the Centre for Community Energy Transformation (CCET) to support the community's transition towards a low-carbon future

Complete Streets Policy
Between 2022-2023, staff reviewed and updated the City’s road engineering design standards to ensure they conform with the new Complete Streets Guide

Green Development Policies (GDS)- Community
The City of Mississauga council approved the update to their GDS approving a tiered mandatory approach. All new development submitted after March 2025 has to comply with Tier 1 GDS requirements. Tier 2 standards will become mandatory in 2028 and Tier 3 standards in 2030.

Green Roof Requirements in GDS / By-law
The Mississauga GDS has a requirement for all buildings with an available roof area larger than 500m2 must include one or a combination of green roof, cool roof, blue roof and/or solar PV: Green roof and/or blue roof for at least 50% of Available Roof Space Cool roof installed for 100% of Available Roof Space Use a combination of a green, blue, cool roof or solar PV for at least 75% of Available Roof Space

EV Ready Requirements in GDS / Parking By-law
The City has updated the zoning by-law in 2022 requiring at least 1 energized outlet in low rise, at least 20% EV Ready in Part 9 buildings and stacked townhomes with communal parking. The parking minimum in the corridor of Hazel McCallion LRT is under development.

Municipal Fleet Electrification Plan
The Green Fleet and Equipment Policy prioritizes investment in low and zero-emissions fleet, equipment and infrastructure; the Electric Vehicle Charging Station Standard will guide the installation of electric vehicle chargers on City property. In addition, in 2019, MiWay committed to transition towards a transit fleet with lower emissions. The current level of service is 2nd generation of hybrid buses. A pilot for fully battery electric buses (BEV) is planned for 2025 and another pilot for hydrogen buses is currently in development.

Net Zero Municipal Facilities Commitment/Standard
The City of Mississauga has a corporate Green Building Standards that applies to all municipal buildings and requires a minimum of Tier 1 requirements with tier 3 being the goal for all new municipal buildings.

Community Emissions Reductions Progress Report
The City diligently reports the progress made against the 2019 CCAP community emissions reduction targets through its progress reporting page. The City is also committed to reporting community emissions through the CDP platform annually and makes TCFD disclosures through the Annual Financial and Sustainability Report.

Urban Agriculture Plans
Mississauga's Urban Agriculture Strategy is geared at encouraging healthier lifestyles, empowering the community to learn new skills about growing and harvesting produce and supporting local businesses with ties to urban agriculture. Implementation of the strategy is ongoing.
