Green Development Policies (GDS)- Community
The updated Sustainability Metrics Program (SMP) was approved by council in May 2022. The SMP has threshold scores and minimum performance levels that are aligned with partner municipalities: Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Brampton. The Program uses a point-based system in which a development proposal earns points for achieving criteria (metrics) organized around the categories of built environment, mobility, natural environment and parks, infrastructure and buildings, and innovation. Points earned through these criteria go towards the minimum sustainability score that development proposals are required to achieve. The threshold levels are Bronze, Silver, and Gold. All new development is required to meet the minimum Bronze level performance level. A minimum sustainability score of 55 replaces the LEED Sliver requirement for medium and high-density residential and mixed-use developments endorsed by Council in 2008.
