The Barrie Active Transportation Plan is incorporated into the Transportation Master Plans for the City. It identifies the City's existing and future active transportation network.

Community Adaptation / Resilience Plan
Barrie's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, approved in 2018 identifies the efforts the City will undertake to incorporate climate impacts and vulnerabilities into municipal decision making.

Community Emissions Reduction/ Mitigation Plan
Barrie's Community Energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Plan, 2022 includes 4 big moves and 18 supporting actions to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions to support a pathway to net-zero by 2050

Community EV Strategy
The City launched the Electrify Barrie program in 2023 to support electric vehicle uptake by residents and businesses in the community.

Community GHG Reduction Targets
The Community Energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Plan established a target of 45% below GHG emission reduction below 2018 levels by 2030 and to become net-zero by 2050.

Community Retrofit Program
The City of Barrie undertook a feasibility and market opportunity study to identify the role a municipal retrofit program could play in helping residents reduce their energy and greenhouse gas emissions.
Complete Streets Policy
The City does not have a Complete Streets Policy, but the Transportation Master Plan incorporates Complete Streets Recommendations.

Corporate Adaptation / Resilience Plan
Barrie's Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Implementation Plan have been developed to address the physical, economic, social, and ecological impacts of climate change.

EV Ready Requirements in GDS / Parking By-law
The City is exploring EV readiness requirements in its 2024 Comprehensive Bylaw Update.
Municipal Fleet Electrification Plan
The City does not have a Fleet Electrification Plan. However, there is an internal commitment for all internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV) to be replaced with an equivalent electric vehicle (EV), where available.

Net Zero Municipal Facilities Commitment/Standard
The City approved a Corporate Net Zero Strategy in 2025, which follows an asset-based renewal approach, replacing energy consuming and greenhouse gas-emitting assets with low-carbon alternatives as they reach the end of their lifecycle.

Urban Forest Plans
The City does not have an Urban Forest Plan but in November 2023 City Council approved a new Ecological Offsetting Policy that will help protect, preserve, and enhance Barrie’s forests. The new policy allows the City to use money collected from the Tree Removal Permit process to plant more trees on city-owned land.
